67: One Year Later - Issues in Opera: Racism
Tuesday Jun 29, 2021
Tuesday Jun 29, 2021
On June 9th, 2020, we released our first Issues In Opera episode covering the ugly truths of opera's long (and current) history with racism. Now over a year later, we're checking back in on the progress we've made, and all of the up's and down's we've had along the way.
In this episode we circle back to cover some of the incredible progress key members of the opera community have made in the pursuit of making our industry more equitable, diverse, and inclusive. We cover Black Opera Alliance's pledge and the work they are doing to keep opera companies accountable and actionable, and discuss the dangers of advocacy for show. We also reflect on the ways advocacy has grown and changed over the past year and ways we can all stay active towards making change after we return to life after the pandemic. Lastly, we celebrate some joyful projects and news from the past year.
